What Is Birding?
Birding is the hobby of
learning about birds through watching and studying them. Many
birders also set up feeding stations in their yard to attract birds,
keep a life-list of species they have observed, and take trips
to find new species to add to their life-list. There have
been over 900 species of birds recorded in North America.
Building a life-list can become an addicting game
a birder plays against himself and the birds to find as many
species as possible during his lifetime. The more one learns about identifying
birds by shape, size, plumage, habitat, feeding characteristics,
call and song, the easier it is to add new ones to the list.
